Shop Fit Clamps: Key Clamp Shop Fittings from Stock

Shop fit clamps are key clamp fittings used with galvanised steel tube to build garment rails, shelving, display stands, tables and storage for shops. Each fitting locks onto the tube with a set screw and an Allen key, so there is no welding, drilling or threading, and a unit can be taken apart and rebuilt when the layout changes. Most shop fit work is done in 33.7mm tube, size 6, because it looks right and suits clothes hangers and shelving.

What You Can Build with Shop Fit Clamps

The same fittings and tube build most of a shop interior. Typical uses:

• Garment rails and clothes rails. Freestanding single and double rails, wall to floor rails and fixed hanging rails. Add braked castor wheels to move a rail around the shop, then lock it in place.
• Shelving and storage. The A37 single fixing pad attaches sheets of wood, metal or glass to a frame without cutting them to fit between the tubes. The A26 four socket cross is used in structures with many uprights, such as racking.
• Display stands, tables and point of sale. Baskets, storage racks, mid-floor stands, point of sale units and window structures. The A18 top corner tee makes the corner joints on benches and tables.
• Wall and ceiling fixed rails. The A10 wall flange is a four holed plate, ideal for securing garment railing structures to ceilings and walls.
• Hanging points. The A64 hook gives an attachment point for chain.

Retailers often choose key clamps for the distinct urban and industrial look of galvanised tube, and because a unit can be reconfigured or extended later.

How Key Clamp Shop Fittings Work

Every fitting is made for one tube size, and the size number in the fitting code matches the tube. An A2-6 short tee fits size 6 (33.7mm) tube. Pick the size first, then order fittings and tube against it.

The fittings are galvanised malleable iron castings. Each one tightens onto the tube with a hexagon key, and when a set screw is tightened to 29 ft lb (4.1 kgm) it gives a slip load of 900kg. The full specification, the size 6 fitting list and tube lengths are on the shop fit clamps and tube page.

Galvanised castings vary slightly in size, so dimensions are guidance only. We do not recommend pre-drilling bolt holes before the fittings are on site.

Finishes

Fittings and tube are hot-dip galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461 as standard. For a black or colour finish, ask for powder coating when you request a quote and we will build it into the price. On one golf shop job the rails went to our powder coaters for a black finish to match the store and were back within five days.

For box section displays, square fittings join 25x25mm and 40x40mm square tube, in galvanised or matt black.

Shelving and Loads

Shelving and racking can be built with key clamp fittings, but the tube size has to suit the load. Ask us for load figures for horizontal tubes and vertical posts in your tube size, and have loaded shelving checked by whoever signs it off.

Where a clamp may be loaded beyond the slip load of its set screws, on racking for example, an A58 collar can be added to support it.
