Standard Step-Over Kits: Sizes, Codes and What You Get
Standard step-over kits give a safe, handrailed route over pipework, plant and equipment, and between roof levels. There are ten kits: five heights, 600mm, 800mm, 1000mm, 1200mm and 1400mm, each in a freestanding version for membrane, asphalt and PVC roofs and a fixed version for concrete roofs and floors. Every kit is 1000mm wide and listed to BS EN 14122 Part 3.
All ten are held in stock, with next-day delivery on stock orders. Tell us the obstacle height and the roof surface and we will confirm the kit and quote within one hour during working hours.

How to Read the Kit Codes
- STMB kits are freestanding, with base feet for membrane, asphalt and PVC roofs. Nothing goes through the waterproofing.
- STCR kits are fixed, for concrete roofs and floors you can bolt down to.
- The number is the obstacle height the kit is made for, in millimetres. An STMB800 is a freestanding kit for an 800mm obstacle. An STCR1200 is a fixed kit for a 1200mm obstacle.

Kits are supplied flat packed and pre-assembled as far as possible to save time on site. They go together without specialist tools and with no welding, and because the frame is bolted rather than welded it can be adjusted, repaired or moved later.

Choosing the Right Kit
Height. Measure the obstacle at its highest point and pick the kit for that height. If your measurement falls between two kit heights, send it to us and we will confirm which kit suits.
Surface. STMB for membrane, asphalt and PVC roofs. STCR for concrete roofs and floors.
Room. Every kit is 1000mm wide, so check the clear width between plant and other obstacles before you order. A Portsmouth firm asked us about STMB600 and STMB800 kits, but photos of the roof showed too little room. We designed a bespoke narrow step-over with a maximum width of 800mm instead.
Compliance. The kits are listed to BS EN 14122 Part 3. Whether the finished installation meets your site's work at height requirements is for whoever installs and signs it off.
When a kit won't fit. Standard kits are not listed for metal roofs or for obstacles over 1400mm. For those, see bespoke step-overs. For low trip hazards like cable trays, a mini step-over kit is smaller and simpler.

What is the difference between STMB and STCR kits?

Every standard kit is 1000mm wide. Where there is less room we can design a bespoke step-over from the same parts. One narrow step-over we designed had a maximum width of 800mm.
Do the kits come assembled?
They are supplied flat packed, pre-assembled as far as possible, with full assembly instructions, and go together without specialist tools.
